A MOA signing was held at the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Headquarters on March 26th for long-term financial support of the Help Educate and Rear Orphans (HERO) Foundation. HERO provides educational stipends to military orphans who lost fathers or mothers− soldiers who risked their lives in service of country or became incapacitated in the line of duty.
Among those present at the signing were VIPs Mr. Fernando Zobel de Ayala, President and Chief Operating Officer of Ayala Corporation, Mr. Michael G. Tan, Chief Operating Officer of Asia Brewery, Inc. (ABI), Mr. Hubert L. Tan, Vice President for Sales and Marketing of ABI and AFP Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Jessie Dellosa.
The HERO Foundation was an advocacy of the late President Corazon Aquino, organized with her former administration’s Defense Secretary General Renato De Villa in 1988 as an answer to the growing and continuing need to help families of fallen soldiers. Distinguished leaders in business and industry were approached for help, and with their support, HERO was established.
Asia Brewery, through Cobra Energy Drink has committed sizeable amounts to be spread out in five years. The financial aid will help keep orphans in school, covering much needed requirements like school supplies, transportation, meals and even a portion of their tuition fees. ABI’s donation in five years will provide educational support to 625 military orphans in college or 125 scholars per year. It may also send 1,250 scholars from elementary to college or 250 military orphans per year.
A portion of the proceeds from Cobra sales shall also be donated to the foundation. These donations are Cobra’s way of honoring the men and women of the AFP who risked the futures of their families for flag and country.
HERO aspires to continue its support to more un-served military orphans in the years to come. To learn more about HERO Foundation, visit www.herofoundation.com.ph, LIKE us on Facebook or call us at (02)912-9330 or 0917-822HERO (4376).
