ABI signs a pact with HERO Foundation
A signing of the Memorandum of Agreement between Help Educate and Rear Orphans (HERO) Foundation, Inc. and Asia Brewery, Inc. (ABI) was held at the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Headquarters on March 26, 2012 for long-term financial support of HERO Foundation.
Among those present at the signing were Mr. Fernando Zobel de Ayala, HERO Chairman, Mr. Antonino T. Aquino, HERO President, Mr. Michael G. Tan, ABI Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Enrique S. Martinez, ABI Chief Finance Officer and MGen. Gregorio E. Macapagal, the AFP Deputy Chief of Staff who represented Gen. Jessie D. Dellosa, AFP Chief of Staff.
HERO provides educational stipends to military orphans who lost fathers or mothers− soldiers who offered their lives in the service of our country or became incapacitated in the line of duty. Every year, hundreds of Filipino soldiers become casualties defending our country and maintaining peace and order.
HERO was an advocacy of the late President Corazon C. Aquino, organized with her former administration’s Defense Secretary General Renato De Villa in 1988 as an answer to the growing and continuing need to help families of fallen soldiers. Distinguished leaders in business and industry were approached for help, and with their support, HERO Foundation was established.
ABI, through Cobra Energy Drink, has committed sizeable amounts to be spread out in five years. The financial aid will help keep orphans in school, covering much needed requirements like school supplies, transportation, meals and even a portion of their tuition fees. ABI’s donation in five years will provide educational support to 1,250 scholars from elementary to college or 250 military orphans per year.
A portion of the proceeds from Cobra sales shall also be donated to the Foundation. These donations are Cobra’s way of honoring the men and women of the AFP who risked the futures of their families for flag and country.
Paying it forward
It doesn’t take much to be a HERO to the orphans of our fallen soldiers. Any amount can go a long way in helping keep these children in school, to give them a fighting chance to achieve their dreams. This can be our chance to give back to our unsung heroes who made the supreme sacrifice in the fulfilment of their constitutional duty as protectors or the People and the State, securing in the process our safety and the preservation of our way of life for this and our future generations. You can extend your support by contributing your donations through the HERO donation boxes located in selected Ayala Malls, through BPI express online, ATM, phone banking or through the corporate donation programs you can choose from the website. Individuals, businesses and corporations are all welcome to help send more HERO orphans to school.
HERO aspires to increase its support to hundreds of un-served military orphans in the years to come. To learn more about HERO Foundation, visit www.herofoundation.com.ph, LIKE us on Facebook: HERO Foundation, follow us on Twitter: @HERO_Phils or call us at (02)624-3725 or 0917-822HERO (4376).
