Award-winning Director Dominic Nuesa turns over a check of P500,000 to HERO Foundation Inc.’s (HFI) Marketing Officers Mauwi Villar and Chez Florentino, part of the revenues of his film “Ang Araw Sa Likod Mo” which featured the Mindanao conflict and the heroism of our soldiers. The film, starring Ping Medina, Bong Cabrera, and Mike Liwag, won international awards. HFI grants scholarships to children of soldiers killed in the line of duty.
Makati City, Philippines – With a bright smile, Direk Dominic Nuesa handed over a check for P500,000 to HERO Scholar, Connie Cabreto. Direk Nuesa has been an active advocate of HERO Foundation, Inc., a non-profit, non-government organization that provides educational assistance to dependents of Filipino soliders who were incapacitated or killed in the line of duty. Since 2013, he has helped out with numerous videos for HERO and recently completed his award-winning advocacy film, “Ang Araw sa Likod Mo.” Direk Nuesa committed to donate a portion of the proceeds of the film prior to the release and sees the project as an opportunity to highlight the heroism and bravery of Filipino soldiers.
A film very relevant not just to HERO’s cause but also with the recent events in Marawi. The film is a gripping story of two brothers reunited despite being separated by conflicting beliefs, and the heroism of Filipino soldiers, in the thick of a four-decade old war against terrorism. Direk Nuesa was inspired by the real stories of Special Operations soldiers in the country known as the Philippine Scout Rangers. “Ang Araw sa Likod Mo” is an intense film filled with raw action that introduces brothers Jamiluddin (Cabrera) and Omar (Liwag) along with Sgt. Benjie Calayan (Medina) within the terrorist infested island in Southern Philippines. It is notable in its research-based authenticity.
Direk Nuesa’s generous donation will aid HERO in ensuring that our heroes’ children have a bright future to look forward to.
